This handmade luxury side table is a piece cut from a single block of wood, a pine trunk over 200 years of age, selected for the uniformity of its ribs and its density. The trunk is first dried in order to ensure its stability, then carved with wood chisels and rope. The wood is then torch ignited in order to carbonize the surface, brushed and stained with walnut stain to give it that matte black finish.
The French word "ébéniste" (cabinetmaker) appeared in the dictionary of the French Academy for the first time in 1732, to distinguish it from the carpenter, because cabinetmakers make use gilding, marquetry, veneer and other techniques. Cabinetmakers work on living wood stock for a decorative purpose, defining the model and its ornamentation; They saw the components, plan them to the right sizes, and finish them by sanding, varnishing, waxing or scraping.
